How to Share Text Snippets Securely (No More Pastebin)
Whether you're a developer sharing a code block, a support agent sending log files, or just someone saving notes, you've probably used a service like Pastebin. It's quick, but it comes with a major drawback: your content is often public, indexed by search engines, and cluttered with ads.
What if you need to share something that shouldn't be public? Curato's Pastes feature is a modern, secure, and private alternative designed for exactly that.
Why Curato Pastes are a Better Alternative
Curato's Pastes feature gives you a permanent, shareable URL for any text snippet, but with the control and privacy that traditional pastebins lack.
- Private by Default: Your pastes are not publicly listed or indexed. Only those with the link can see it.
- Password Protection: Add a password to your paste, ensuring only the intended person can view the content.
- Real-time Collaboration: Multiple users can view a paste and see edits happen in real-time, making it great for collaboration.
- Clean & Ad-Free: No ads, no clutter. Just a clean, simple interface for your content.
- Permanent Custom URL: You choose a memorable URL (e.g., `curato.app/pst/my-project-notes`), and it stays there as long as you need it.
How to Create a Secure Paste in Seconds
Let's create a password-protected paste with a custom URL.
Step 1: Go to the "Pastes" Tab
From the Curato homepage, click on the Pastes tab.
Step 2: Choose Your Custom URL Alias
In the "Custom Alias" field, type the unique name for your paste's URL. For example, `api-debug-log`. The interface will tell you if the alias is available.
Step 3: Create the Paste
Click the "Create Paste" button. You'll be taken to your new, permanent paste page. Initially, it will be empty.
Step 4: Add Content and Set a Password
Click the Edit button. Paste your code, log, or notes into the text area. Then, click the Settings button (⚙️) to open the settings dialog. Here, you can enter a password for your paste. Save the settings, then save your content.
Step 5: Share the Secure Link
Now you can share the URL to your paste. When the recipient opens it, they will be prompted to enter the password before they can see the content.
When to Use Pastes vs. Temporary Text Transfers
Curato also offers temporary, end-to-end encrypted text transfers on the "Send" tab. So, which should you use?
- Use a temporary transfer for maximum, zero-knowledge security. The text is encrypted in your browser and deleted from the server after it's viewed. Ideal for sending secrets like API keys or one-time passcodes.
- Use a Paste when you need a permanent home for your text that is still private and controlled. It's perfect for project notes, configuration files, or collaborative documents that you want to protect with a password.
Stop throwing your sensitive text snippets into the public domain. Use Curato Pastes for a secure, permanent, and private solution.
